ABOUT US

What is My Forest Child?

Launched by Save the Children International – the world’s biggest independent child-focused organisation – My Forest Child is a unique international initiative that enables people and businesses to join the fight against the global climate and nature emergency.

It supports children and their families most affected by that emergency while at the same time addressing the underlying cause of the crisis – record levels of CO² emissions that are overheating our planet and disrupting life on Earth.

My Forest Child supports activities in four key areas. It aims to:

1. Invest in mass tree-planting to help restore damaged forests and ecosystems as well as strengthen natural defences against various hazards and extreme weather disasters.

2. Protect the lives and futures of vulnerable communities – especially women and girls – from the growing impacts of the climate crisis such as worsening floods and droughts.

3. Support young people campaigning for greater climate and environmental awareness and action in their own countries, and internationally, via the child-led Red Alert campaign.

4. Provide information and services to help businesses and individuals successfully reduce their environmental footprint, including by cutting CO² emissions and offsetting those emissions that cannot be eliminated yet.

In the United States and around the world, we work every day to give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. When crisis strikes and children are most vulnerable, we are always among the first to respond and the last to leave. We do whatever it takes for children - every day and in times of crisis – transforming their lives and the future we share.

How it works

My Forest Child provides information and tools – including a website and app designed in collaboration with children – to help individuals and business better understand the climate and nature crisis, their own environmental impact, and how they can contribute to solutions.

A carbon footprint calculator helps users to measure and reduce their CO² emissions and broader environmental footprint.

As well as choosing more sustainable lifestyles and practices, individuals and business can also make donations to support activities that tackle the climate and nature crisis in various ways. They can also choose to offset some, or all, of those CO² emissions that cannot yet be eliminated.

The website and app additionally provide useful environmental facts, project updates, as well as news and messages from young Red Alert campaigners.

My Forest Child also offers a games app that not only entertains players but reveals helpful climate and nature facts.
