Who we are
Save the Children International (‘SCI’, ‘we’) is a charity that works around the world to ensure that children survive, learn, and are protected. It includes Save the Children International and other Save the Children member organisations. We work in programmes, advocacy and emergency responses supporting children and families around the world.

This notice applies to personal data collected from you as part of the My Forest Child project. Save the Children International is the ‘Controller’ of the data collected in this survey, which means we are responsible for how your data is used, stored, shared, and deleted.
Data you give us
When you voluntarily interact with us, we may collect your name, email address(es) and/or telephone number(s). For example, when you register in our app, you specifically and knowingly provide us with your personal information.
We may also collect information about your gender, age, country, phone number and other information.
If you visit our site and mobile app, we may automatically collect certain technical information, for example, the type of device or platform you use to access our site, the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your device to the Internet.
We will automatically collect information about your visit to our site and interactions with us via our mobile app, including the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL), clickstream to, through and from the Website (including date and time), pages you viewed, page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), and methods used to browse away from the page.
We may also receive information about you from third parties – but only if you have given them permission to share your information.
We may collect information about you whenever you interact with us. For example, when you register for a service, complete a survey, contact SCI regarding our activities, or register as a supporter, you specifically and knowingly provide us with your personal information. When you visit and use our website and app we may also automatically collect technical information about your visit from your device.
SCI and other Save the Children Member entities
Data from all participants in one country may be shared by SCI with the Save the Children Member organisation in that country, to enable that Member to design programs and services for children most suited to local need.
We use third party tools to collect the data on our behalf. We may also share your data with third parties who provide services on our behalf. We place obligations on all third parties in relation to the technical and organisational security of the data and require them to use the data only as we instruct. Data processed on our behalf by any third parties outside the UK is transferred in accordance with relevant legal protections.

We will not share your information with any third party, including Save the Children Member entities, for marketing purposes unless we have your consent.
SCI implements measures to ensure that your information is kept secure, accurate and up to date, and only for as long as is reasonable and necessary. Data may be retained in our archive in accordance with regulatory requirements.
We will not be responsible for the privacy of data collected by websites not owned or managed by SCI, including those linked through our website.
We shall only retain your personal information for as long as is necessary to complete our work
Your right to voluntary participation
Your participation in any My Forest Child surveys is voluntary and you can stop at any time. Your registration to receive any SMS, WhatsApp, or email communications from us is also voluntary. You and your family’s relationship with Save the Children will not be affected if you do not want to participate or if you withdraw at any time.
We will not pay you for your participation and you will not own the content gathered. We will only use data gathered for the purposes described in this Notice.

If you want to opt out of the research
We understand that you might change your mind in the future and may want to opt out of the research. You also have the right to request access to and update your information. You can contact the Save the Children International Asia Regional Office team at evidence.aro@savethechildren.org to request that we update or cease to use your information. Please note that we may not be able to withdraw it from documents already published.
If you are concerned about how your participation in MY FOREST CHILD’s activities made you feel, your rights, or anything else like that, then you can contact the Save the Children US Ethics Review Committee by email at researchethics@savechildren.org or phone on +1.202.794.1821.
Save the Children has a zero tolerance towards the abuse and exploitation of children by any of our staff or our representatives. We are committed to avoiding unintended harm to children as a result of anything we do. Click here for our Child Safeguarding Policy. If you have a safeguarding concern, please tell us immediately and report it via email to safeguarding@savethechildren.org.
If you want to exercise any of the rights described above or are unhappy with the way we have used your information, you can contact our Data Protection Officer, at dpo@savethechildren.org. We will seek to deal with your request without undue delay, and in any event in accordance with the requirements of UK law.

Please do not send original documents. Please provide self-certified copies of the documents. If the request is submitted by someone other than the data subject, then proof of identity for both the authorised representative and the data subject should be provided.
We will fulfil your request within one month as soon as we have verified your identity. If there are any unavoidable delays, we will update you on the expected revised timelines along with the reason for the delay.
The information you send to us as part of the Subject Access Request will only be used to process your request and respond back to your request. This includes verifying your identity, analysing your request, locating required information, responding back to your request and answering any queries you may have. We may contact you, using the details you send, if we need any further information to be able to fulfil your request.
If you are not satisfied with our response, please contact us at dpo@savethechildren.org with the details explaining your concerns. We will review your complaint and investigate if the right procedures have been followed and respond back to you as appropriate. We aim to complete this investigation within 15 working days of receiving your complaint, however, in some cases it may take longer. If you are still unsatisfied with the response, you may contact the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), which oversees data protection compliance in the UK.
